At the "extremes" Systema relies less on technique than Sombo and will tend more to takedowns than throws All I know of Systema …

Systema has been presented in some Western media as a Russian martial art, although it is not clear it exists as a single martial art.

It took principles from Judo to develop a wide array of sweeps and wrestling style takedowns and joints locks. Mixed Martial Arts.

There are three branches of Sambo: International Sport Sambo, Combat Sambo, and Military Sambo. Sambo, bayonet, stage combat, executive protection, hand to hand, and the rest escape me at the moment, sorry. These combat systems included sport sambo, combat sambo, and Samoz, which later evolved into Systema. Within MMA techniques are taken from Savate, all forms of Karate, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling, Sambo, Boxing, and really anything else that works under pressure. Coincidence?

I was somewhat unsatisfied with my progress.

My own coach, life long military and nearly 70 years old now used to say that systema was a less practical offshoot of combat sambo.

I have once (ONCE) seen non-nonsense Systema being demonstrated and taught.

And, unsurprisingly, it was utterly indistinguishable from Combat Sambo (which is why it worked).

Before I encountered systema I was involved in JJJ with competitive tournaments. It is defined by a scientific approach to biomechanics, breath training, and combat psychology.

But as you can see, it has a lot to offer. Sambo: Sambo is a child of Judo, except it has evolved in the opposite direction as Judo. Is ROSS just a general Differences will depend largely on the instructors - Systema is a fairly general term and some Systema teachers have a Sambo background, or have at least studied CS during their military career, so the lines can be blurred.

Is ROSS just a general The Combat Systema approach outlined in this video series was created by Kevin Secours, after years of high-level study under top Russian masters.
